Do i like CoP?

Well, i really want to say no....and to some extent i can.

But what CoP gives me is an outlet for my wanting to see yellow numbers on my mes and since the SP nerf there really isnt a whole lot of non conditional boom boom.

And we all know yellow numbers is what pve is about. My mes is my main and i like to run different builds, and cop(with AP) is just the best way to to dump damage out with him.

Yes, I like it. For one simple reason: What else is a Mesmer supposed to do in hard mode?

With half spell casting time in hard mode, most interrupts have gone from hard to impossible. Especially those strong 3/4s and 1s spells that can be interrupted quite well normally get incredibly difficult.

So the Mesmer loses the ability to do what he is good at. He is hit by hard mode way more then any other class. And he does not have something like Spiteful Spirit to compensate (Visions of Regret helps but it is a lot weaker then SS and it got changed recently, so it wasn't available at all when CoP got introduced).

So what can be done to avoid having a completely useless Mesmer in hard mode?
1. Remove the double spell casting time. Replace it with half spell cooldown for monsters in hard mode or something like that. That makes interrupts possible and still monsters are a bigger threat.
2. Give the Mesmer an alternative way to be played. As damage dealer - with CoP.

I would have preferred the first solution. I would love to see normal casting time in HM and CoP altered in some way. But as long as interrupts in HM are not that good, I like CoP exactly the way it is.

PvE skills made GW twice as fun as it used to be earlier...PvP is booooring....

Q.Q moar.

Trolling aside, I love it. Its multifunctional, does good damage, and makes gameplay for my mesmer which is h/h'ing all the time a bit more fun.

My mesmer could get along fine without CoP but since it's there I'll use it. It's not like its the greatest spell in the world. It just helps a little with the ole' mobs.

Here's the thing, PvE is about being able to do damage fast. There aren't that many areas you have to use finesse or shut down skills. Mobs have a faster e-regen making e-denial more or less useless, in HM that is worthless. In HM mobs activate skills faster and I think their skills recharge quicker making interrupting tougher unless you are really good at it and maybe have a few skills to help you out.

Then there's the skill bars and AI which don't really cry out for advanced tactics (mesmers).

So yeah, CoP is something I like in PvE. Think of it as a mass power spike.

wow you'd have to be the only person who says that about pve skills. CoP owns, course it does, do I like it, hell no. Does it suit mesmers ? not really. Thinking about it like a mesmer, the reason mesmers are so good, is because theyre so versatile: hex pressure, condipressure, shutdown, interrupt etc. What CoP does is decrease the versatility of it because if everyone is running a cryer build no ones thinking for themselves and creating the next generation of mesmer builds, now thats not what mesmers are about. Of course this is pve and most of those techiniques wouldnt work, which leads to an arguement should mesmers be a pvp only char ? (like sins should be pve only char) but im not gettin into that. We couldve had the same discussion about running ursan and pain inverter on mesmer, does it work ? yes, does it suit theyre style of play, not really.

New generation of Mesmer builds? Er, CoP is the only thing keeping Mesmer's even semi-viable. If CoP didn't exist, you wouldn't see anyone running Mesmer primaries, period. And even then, CoP is better utilized on other primaries.

How much I agree with this statement, I must say 16+ FC + Deadly Paradox, Mindbender and various dagger skills is incredibly funny.

There is a difference between playing PvE and farming it.
And the lack of CoP would influence just one.

It sounds okay, but I don't like the idea of widespread cheap AoE coupled with something based on Sunspear points...

Once [Ursan Blessing] was overused.

Now [Cry of Pain] ["There's Nothing to Fear!"] ["Save Yourselves!"] are getting overused

It's the same as Spiritual Pain. Extremely useful as it gives a high-power aoe damage source, and equally broken. Giving a class the best sources of damage and shutdown is silly. Just because it's PvE shouldn't excuse that - this game isn't about each class being able to do everything.

Band-aid fix to gloss over the fact PvE is dumb.

I played my mesmer way before CoP and still get him out once in a while to help others achieve something they consider hard.

The only players who would stop using mesmers are those who don't care about profession but only about the most efficient way of getting in a farming group.
Ursan, Shadow Form, Terra, whatever other flavor of the month... Players create them and abuse them as much as they can.
Not because it makes them better players, but because those builds work in groups where most members only needs two braincells to get things done. One cell to make sure they don't (over) aggro and follow orders, the other to click on CoP whenever it's reloaded and foes are still standing.
The only player who needs slightly more braincells is the one guiding the others.
So much for high-end PvE

I was over the moon when I saw people actively looking for mesmers when VS farming started. I've never actually come across any mesmer hate myself - on the few occasions I've wanted to party with other people I've been accepted (usually along the lines of "oh good, a mesmer") rather than abused and rejected by party leaders like most other mesmers have experienced - but then again I've never seen anyone spamming "glf mesmer!" before, so it was a really refreshing change. For that reason alone I like CoP.

I don't actually use it outside of VS farming, though. It's boring as hell to use, is only really effective when echoed and spammed by several party members and H/H can't run PvE skills, and seems rather self-contradictory because of the wait-for-the-right-time-to-interrupt/nuke-as-fast-as-possible thing.

Pain Inverter is far more my idea of a PvE mesmer skill. I get the same kick out of seeing enemy dervishes and eles blow themselves up in one go when they AoE a minion mob as I did when I saw my first melee enemy empathy itself to death back in presearing. CoP doesn't give me that feeling.

I like it enough to use it, after all it has helped my previously unwanted mesmer(WHY PuGs WHY???) become more accepted in groups doing fun things such as THK

We all know why mesmers were inferior to other classes in PvE - disruption isn't essential and when its needed, other classes can carry it without gimping their bars.

Additionally, mobs aren't affect by psychological effects and don't exhibit emotions like humans.

CoP allows the mesmer to do something else other than disruption while still doing the disruption in the same package (most other uses, like energy drain and/or other forms of damage are either useless in PvE or have been nerfed because of PvP). Its very close to ursan, not as bad, but close.

CoP, Shadow form tanking and classic (obby and what not) tanking are some of the dumb ways of playing the game.

About "Save yourselves", that is slightly different. Areas (or some of them) designed after paragon introduction can make the job of getting SY not that easy, and doesn't do anything against non-ele spell damage, life stealing, degen and attack skill damage.

I think people only think of CoP as a AoE dmg spell, however its always on my mesmer bar not only for that, but if you use it wisely to both interrupt and deal alot of dmg,its twice as useful, its basically a power spike with AoE with same recharge.

So,even if you play a interrupter,CoP should be on your bar somewhere.
